Have H1N1 and the Mexican drug wars been stopping you from riding down to Mexico? While we can not promise your safety, we can assure you that you will be riding with experienced guides who know the region. In the last 3 years I have logged over 50,000 miles on my motorcycle including a 30,000 mile trip to Argentina (http://www.journeyrider.com/). The other guides have similar experience.
This offering is for a $250 deposit for one spot on Journey Rider’s March 11th seven day Copper Canyon motorcycle tour. The total cost of the tour is $1400 and the remaining $1150 is due February 4th. Currently there are 4 riders signed up for the tour and this auction is for one of the last 4 spots on the 8 man tour.
Included with the 7 day Copper Canyon tour are 6 nights in comfortable hotels (2 riders per twin bed room, private room available for extra fee), gas when we hit the dirt in Mexico, great meals, and snacks along the way.
Itinerary:
The tour starts on March 13th in Phoenix, Arizona. We will meet at 7:00 am and depart at 9:00 am after free breakfast and a mandatory safety presentation. Any rider who is not present by 9 am on March 11th will be left behind and forfeit their $1400. The first day we will ride to Creel. Three riders will be able to get a ride in the support truck with their bikes on the back. We will draw straws before we leave.
The next morning at 8:00 am we will depart Creel towards Urique canyon and visit the historic towns of El Divisadero and Cuiteco. The third day we will descend more than 6000 ft. to the town of Urique. The following day we will ride to Batopilas and drop 5000 ft. as we enter the narrow winding downhill roads of the canyon. Here we will spend 2 nights recovering from all that seat time. On the second day in Batopillas there will be an optional short ride or you can relax in the town. The sixth day will be spent riding to Santa Rosa where will stay the night and depart the next morning back to Phoenix.
More Details:
This tour is for intermediate off-road riders. We will be covering a broad range of terrain including patches of deep sand, lose dirt, steep inclines, and steep descents. If you do not have off-road experience then please ask about the beginner tour instead.
There will be 2 guides riding motorcycles on this 8 man tour. One guide will ride at the front of the group leading the pack. The other guide will ride at the back of the group and provide assistance to riders with injuries, crashes, and mechanical problems. A mechanic will be driving our support truck a few hours behind us each day and he will rendezvous with the rest of the group at 8:00 pm.
For this tour we recommend that one of the following motorcycles be used; BMW F650, Honda XR 650 or XR 600, Kawasaki KLR 650, KTM 525 or KLX 400, or 640 adventure, and Suzuki DRZ 400, DR 650. If the bike you are planning on riding is not on the list please ask for approval to use a different model. It will be important that your motorcycle has adequate ground clearance and front suspension travel. Reliability is also a must since we will be in a remote part of Mexico. Knobby dual sport tires like the Metzler Karoo and the Continental TKC-80 will be ideal for the trip.
Each rider will be required to buy a Medjet Assist (http://www.medjet.com/) medical evacuation policy. In the event of serious illness or injury Medjet Assist will arrange and pay for an airlift to the USA. They have a great reputation in the motorcycle travel community and that is the reason for choosing them. I do not receive a commission.
It is also required that each rider purchases international travel insurance for the duration of the tour. It is highly unlikely that theft would occur but is better to be on the safe side.
Refund/ Cancellation Policy:
If you decide to cancel before February 4th half of your deposit ($125) will be refunded in addition to your entire trip payment of $1150. If you cancel between February After February 4th to Feb. 13th your deposit will not be refunded but your trip payment of $1150 will be completely refunded. Full payment for the trip must be received 30 days in advance. No payments will be refunded on cancellation with less then 30 days notice.
